Team Spotlight: Leesville High Pride Varsity Baseball

The baseball season is off to a promising 4-2 start this season, with more games and — according to eager players — some playoff games further down the road.

One of the most notable additions to the team this year is Dillon Cooper, head coach.

“Coach Cooper is a great coach for the group of guys we have this year, and he has done a very good job preparing us for the season since he got the job,” said Alex Higdon, senior and pitcher for the team.

Brett Kutner, first baseman and junior, said, “He’s doing a fantastic job adjusting with the little time he was given. He was given one month to prepare his team, and he has already beaten his old team and old coach!”

Team morale definitely seems to be high following Coach Cooper’s arrival.

“Leesville is a great school with a lot of great kids and baseball players. As a graduate from Leesville I am very happy to be back home and hopeful to win a lot of games this spring,” said Cooper.

As for how the season is going, Cooper said, “The season is off to a good start so far, we are working hard every day to get better and make a playoff run at the end of the season.” The team is hungry for playoffs.

The players have the same thoughts.

“I’m confident and excited for a chance to play for a state title,” said Kutner.

“I am feeling confident that we can make a deep run in the state playoffs this year,” said Higdon.

On March 11, the baseball team played Panther Creek and Jordan High School on March 10. Varsity won 14-3 against Panther Creek and won 14-4 against Jordan.

Both Varsity and JV Baseball also play today, March 14, against Millbrook.

Hidgon said, “I’m feeling good about tonight’s game and confident that we will get a big win tonight.”

“I know my teammates, coaches, and I all really want to win this one so we’re all ready to go,” said Kutner.

Millbrook’s record is 7-0, so it could be a tough game, but the pride won’t back down without a fight.
Best of luck to the team tonight —  all of us at The Mycenaean are hoping for a win.
