Experienced Students Give Advice on How to Handle AP Exams

Attention all students who are taking an AP exam this year: Exams are just around the corner, so if you had your class in the first semester, you should start studying.

If you take the AP exam you are able to earn college credit, as long as you score a three or above.

For many students this will be their first year taking an AP exam, which can be stressful. June Noyes, freshman, gave a resounding yes, when asked if she is stressed.

Noyes is taking AP World History and AP Pre-calculus as a freshman, which is a lot for your first year in high school.

Older students say not to worry too much and to practice answering questions as quickly as possible.

Jovin Zhang, junior, said, “Work on getting faster if you can, because that time really gets you on exams.”

Zhang is taking five exams this year and has taken five previously. He said he is not that stressed out about his many exams this year.

Some teachers have review sessions, like Mrs. Langlois and Mr. Craddock for AP U.S. Government.

Lillian Baker, sophomore, said the review sessions are very helpful, while others think if you just do the study guide then that will do the same thing.

Some students say that having your AP classes second semester is better because they have just taken the class so it is fresh in their mind. Other students say having them first semester is better because they would have the whole semester to learn the material, not get the time cut short by exams.

Baker said, “I feel like first semester [would be better], because then you’re not as stressed leading up to it.”

Noyes said, “I think second semester. I would have forgotten stuff, I think.”

Zhang also prefers second semester because the information is fresh in his mind.
