As students at Leesville approach the end of the third quarter, mixed emotions flood the school. Many are excited and anxious to reach spring break, while others still have big responsibilities as close as the last day before break.
Midterms are a big focus at the end of the third quarter as many students use the test to boost their grade or replace old test scores. “I think they’re a little helpful because, like in mine, it replaces your lowest test grade, but if you do it bad, it doesn’t count, so that’s helpful,” said Eleanor Crosby, sophomore.
While midterms can relieve some stress, they can also create some. Elizabeth Dokulil’s AP Statistics class is one example.”It depends on how teachers grade it. Um, for my stat one, the midterm could hurt you, so that definitely adds a little bit of stress,” said Elizabeth Dokulil, senior.
Keeping up with school work is a struggle for a lot of students. Many lose motivation this time of year and just stop caring. Especially for seniors, it’s important to find things or people that give them a reason to stay motivated and on top of their work.
“I think it’s definitely hard at the end of senior year to keep motivated, but it’s really good that all my teachers and classmates are really helpful and motivating, so that’s what’s keeping me going through school right now,” said Dokulil.
Thanks to friends, teachers, and family, students are pushing through the last stretch before spring break. Luckily this year, spring break falls exactly between the third and fourth quarter making it easier to refresh and prepare for the fourth quarter since many students, “…feel like [they] need a break before the fourth quarter,” said Crosby.
Overall, students and staff are definitely ready for their well-earned break. The focus next quarter will be to keep motivation and stay on top of assignments to end the 2024-2025 school year on a positive note.
