This past week, sophomore council gathered and made posters for Women’s History Month. Each poster had a historically important woman on it, and they were placed on different teachers’ doors.
Kira White, sophomore, is a member of the council “This month (March) is women’s history month, so we made posters honoring different women,” said White.
Caroline Murray, sophomore, is the vice president of sophomore council and did the hard work of choosing the historical women to showcase on these posters.
Murray does many other things for the council, such as bringing snacks, running the social media, coordinating with head teacher Mrs. Winoski, and planning the meetings.
Sophomore council does many things other than make posters. They plan for fundraisers, Homecoming, and Halloween events. They also help out if teachers need anything.
Right now there are not many people that show up to meetings. On a meeting day there can be anywhere from 12-30 people which is a small amount considering there are 660 students in the sophomore class.
Zaran Chowdhury, sophomore, the president of sophomore council, thinks it is because people don’t have the time after school.
Chowdhury said, “I think it’s just the time commitment that people have to give. If they have to go somewhere after school, or a lot of times if people play sports after school they can’t make it to the meetings.”
Murray is trying to get people to join sophomore council by asking all her friends to come to the meetings and spread the word.
Murray said, “It’s a really good place to get to know people especially in your grade level. We do a lot of service projects and it’s really fun. And there’s snacks!”
If you’re a sophomore and want to make an impact on the school, meet some new people, and eat, then sophomore council is the place to be.
