LRHS Students Are unhappy With canceled Teacher Work-Days

Monday, April 7, 2025 was supposed to be a teacher workday, but because of the week of snow in February of this year, we need to make up some days that were canceled.

March 14 is another day that was supposed to be a break for students but was used as a weather makeup day.

While most students liked the snow days, they said that time off was not worth having to be at school now when they otherwise would not need to be.

Juliana Adee, sophomore, said, “I’d rather have the days [off] split up than have that whole week because half of those days there wasn’t even snow on the ground.”

Lillian Baker, sophomore, thinks that having to make up the time isn’t fair because North Carolina already has one of the longest school years in the country.

Baker said, “I feel like that’s unfair, especially because North Carolina has the longest school year in the country.”

Maggie Walter-Welch, freshman, thinks that the time off took away from her time to complete her school work. There was more than a week off but only a few makeup days and she believes that wasn’t enough time to catch up.

“We had to cram in a bunch of work in the last week of the quarter so it was really stressful,” said Walter-Welch.

While most students said they prefer having to be at school on a workday instead of a Saturday, Baker thinks that it would be easier to convince her parents to skip school because of other things that she has planned.
