Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Oxendine

Sarah Oxedine is counselor at Leesville road High school and has been counselor at Leesville since December 2012.

Oxedine was born in Sanford, North Carolina and graduated from Lee County Senior High school.

“I played basketball recreationally and cheered in junior high. I danced (outside of school) for years,” said Oxedine via email.

Oxendine went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned her bachelor degree in psychology. She also went to East Carolina University, earning her master’s degree in social work.

She didn’t always want to be a counselor. She used to want to be a lawyer because her dad was a lawyer.

“I knew I wanted to help people, so I obtained my License in Clinical Social Work (LCSW) and was a private practitioner for a couple years before I moved into school counseling,” said Oxendine.

She lives in the community, and her kids have been going to Leesville since they were in elementary school. So when it came down to choosing a school, it wasn’t hard for her to choose Leesville.

“Having her down the hall has been helpful so it made High School easier for me,” said Hayes Oxendine, a senior at Leesville Road HIgh School and the son of Sarah Oxendine.

One of her favorite things about Leesville is the students, she loves building bonds with them over years. She also loves attending sporting events, art performances, etc. and seeing students doing activities they love.

“Mrs. Oxendine has been super helpful throughout my time at Leesville and is always super kind and willing to connect with all her students. You can tell she loves what she does and truly cares about all of her students,” said Ashley Stanziale, a junior.

In her free time she enjoys walking outside, working out, listening to audiobooks and true crime podcasts, watching sports, and hanging out with her family.

“I’m going to miss not having her always when I go off to college even though I’m going right down the road it still won’t be the same,” said Hayes Oxendine.
