Harry Potter theme park to open spring 2010

This spring, Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida will be opening the much-anticipated Harry Potter theme park.  The date of the park’s opening has not yet been released, but the park is estimated to be opened around the same time as the release of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie.

The 20 acre park is being built inside the Islands of Adventure theme park and has many features that Harry Potter fans are bound to love.

The park features three rides, one restaurant, and multiple Potter-themed gift shops.

One ride titled “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” takes you through an exact replica of the Hogwarts castle, complete with Dumbledore’s office, the Gryffindor common room, and even the room of requirements.

The other two rides, “Dragon Challenge” and “Ride of the Hippogriff” are for those who love roller coasters and are willing to soar through the Hogwarts grounds at a faster pace.

For those who aren’t adrenaline junkies, the Potter themed shops are sure to provide excitement. The shops in the park include Olivander’s wand shop, where a “wandkeeper” will help you to find a custom made wand, and Honey Duke’s, where those with a sweet tooth can purchase cauldron cakes, fizzing whizbees, acid pops and chocolate frogs, and that’s just to name a few.

If the shops and rides are not enough, fans have the opportunity to dine at “The Three Broomsticks,” the famous tavern featured in all of the Harry Potter novels. Diners can feast upon Cornish pastries and shepherd’s pie, while enjoying famous Potter drinks such as butter beer and pumpkin juice.

In order to be one of the first to hear of the park’s opening date, they can sign up to receive the theme park’s newsletter on the park’s website.
