Leesville’s Key Club held their monthly meeting on Tuesday November 4, 2014 to finalize Unicef donations and write notes to teachers as a part of their teacher appreciation campaign.
The first part of the meeting was dedicated to collecting the Halloween themed Unicef donations that club members were expected to collect during the holiday.
“Everyone receive a box, and it’s trick or treat for Unicef and you can ask your neighbors or just ask your parents or any loose change that you have, you put it inside the box and then the money go to the Unicef foundation to help kids get vaccinated for different diseases,” said Jordan Mareno, Key Club officer.
After the money was collected, the officers passed out note cards with directions to pick a teacher and write them a kind note. Usually the students pick teachers who they’ve had before and have a personal connection with.
This appreciation campaign has taken many forms over the years, but the point was always the same; to show teachers our appreciation.
“In the past we’ve done candy bags for teachers at Halloween or during any of the holidays, and this year, we didn’t do the candy bags but we decided that personal notes to them [teachers] would be more meaningful,” said Mareno.
Keeping up with the philanthropic spirit, Key Club’s next meeting, held on December 2, will be dedicated to Wrapping for Inclusion, an awareness and fundraising campaign, stressing the importance of helping other during the holidays.
