PEPI applications now available

Physical Education Pupil Instructor (PEPI) applications are now available for sophomores and juniors outside of room 52 for the 2015-2016 school year.

PEPI is a program that pairs juniors and seniors with elementary school classes in grades K-3.

High school students lead kids in games and activities during their recess. Students also develop leadership skills and learn to work with others during the class. As well as working with kids, the juniors and seniors must also work together to plan lessons and implement them.

While PEPI may be fun, it’s not just a free period. “It is more like a job once they get assigned an elementary class,” said Coach Tadlock, the PEPI teacher, in an email interview.

Any rising junior or senior can apply to PEPI, but according to Tadlock students who have an interest in becoming a teacher or enjoy working with youth will benefit from the class the most. Students must fill out an application that requires them to write an essay. Once students turn in their essay, Tadlock will send their names to the LRHS staff. The staff will then fill out a recommendation questionnaire.

PEPI students must also be prepared to be role models for kids.

“[PEPI leaders] seemed like really cool kids from the high school that would come and just play fun games with us” said Gabby Imbasciani, a student who is applying to PEPI. Imbasciani participated in PEPI as a kid, which encouraged her to apply.

Applications are due by February 6. Students with any questions can email Coach Tadlock at stadlock@wcpss.net.
