The NC State student-run radio station, 88.1FM “The Revolution”, will be hosting their 12 annual concert, the Double Barrel Benefit. The event will be broken up into two nights. The first night will take place in Raleigh at Lincoln theatre, on February 7. The second night will be held at Cat’s Cradle near Carrboro on February 14.
The Double Barrel Benefit is a concert the station holds yearly. It was dubbed the “Double Barrel Benefit” to represent the many bands that play with southern and country undertones in their music.
Spider Bags, a Chapel-Hill-based band, will be headlining the first night of the event in Raleigh. They are widely known for their indie brand of punk rock combined with North Carolina folk.
Cat’s Cradle is a well-known spot for collegiates and twenty-somethings to enjoy live performances. At the forefront of the night will be Eternal Summers, formed in Roanoke, Virginia. Their specialty is pop, with an ‘80s rock-and-roll essence.
The radio station will use the profits to cover its costs. The Revolution operates with an open-platform approach to broadcasting. Any student at NC State can sign up to be a disc jockey on the station and play their favorite music across the Triangle. There is always a heavy emphasis on local bands and music from around the triangle area.
The radio station generally plays everything from indie rock to underground hip-hop. As they state on their website, “Our aim is to provide NCSU students with the knowledge needed for a career in the broadcast industry and listeners with music that doesn’t suck.”
Tickets for one or both nights are still available for those 18 or older. Tickets are $22 for both nights or $12 for each individual night.
