Music World Helps Haiti

After the massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti, the music world sprang into action.

100 artists banded together to remake Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie’s song “We Are The World” to aid relief efforts in Haiti.  This version of the song marks its 25th anniversary.

When the song was first written in 1985, it raised $63 million for the famine in Africa.

During the first month of the new version’s release, iTunes waved its share of the proceeds for downloads.  The artists who participated agreed to forego payment so that Haiti could receive more aid money.

All donations are sent to We Are The World Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in February 2010.  From there, the money is sent to hand-picked charities where it is put to the best use.

The Christian music world has also stepped up to help Haiti with an album called Healing4Haiti which features over 15 bands and artists.

A minimum of five dollars per album sold will be sent to Haiti earthquake relief through three different nonprofit charities: Samaritan’s Purse, Rapid Response and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

The Jewish community is also helping Haiti victims by hosting a concert with a host of Israeli artists, musicians and actors.  All proceeds will be transferred to Haiti through Israeli Flying Aid (IFA).

Clean water, shelter, survival supplies, medical care, and other critical aid will be supplied with the money the album sales raise.
