Summer is known to be music festival season from Australia to the U.S. In North Carolina, primarily in Raleigh and Charlotte there are myriad concerts and festivals geared specifically at high school students. Some recently past, concerts in the past month have been State Champs, Pierce the Veil, All Time Low & local Durham band, Headfirst for Halos.
There are many upcoming concerts to plan for. Most tickets for alternative bands like these are sold general admission, which prices the tickets around 35 dollars each, which is decently affordable for teens.
One such teen-geared event that is upcoming and completely FREE is the 95x radio station sponsored, featuring The Cold War Kids. The event is set for May 29 at Red Hat Amphitheater in downtown Raleigh, 6 pm. There are no tickets required and the seating is general admission.
This is the 95x annual “Block Party”, that in the past featured Cage the Elephant and is known to be very popular amongst Leesville and neighboring high school students. A free concert at the end of the school year sounds like a great experience, if a very large crowd and heat do not tend to bother you too much.
Another upcoming concert is Mumford and Sons. Although the tickets are slightly more pricey, this is a great alternative if you would rather not deal with such a vast crowd at The Cold War Kids. The tickets range from $37 to $62, at the general admission lawn to the pit, respectively. The show is on Thursday, June 11, at 7:00 PM.
A bit sooner, May the 9th at 7 PM, another older alternative band, Brand New, are playing at Red Hat Amphitheater. Tickets are $30 for general admission.
Irish alternative band, Flogging Molly, that are most renown for their track in the movie “P.S. I Love You,” will also be visiting the Raleigh area if you’re in the mood to hear a little something different from typical alternative rock music. They’ll be playing at Red Hat on Tuesday, June the 16th at 6:30. Tickets start at $26.50 for general admission.
Train, is another spectacular group that will be headed toward the Raleigh area this summer. Their set list will include old favorites, such as “Drops of Jupiter” & “Hey Soul Sister” along with songs from their newer album like, “Angel in Blue Jeans.” From reading reviews I can tell this will be the concert of the summer if a you’re particularly interested in performer’s interaction with the audience. This is a vital part of the concert-going experience, so I know I won’t be missing this one. The show is on June the 10th at 7 PM and the venue will be the Walnut Creek Amphitheatre. Ticket prices range from $25 for general admission to $79.50 for reserved pavilion seating.
If you’re a big alternative/indie fan, Raleigh is the place to be this summer, concert-wise. The affordable ticket prices along with great line up of artists touring in the area is definitely something to look forward to.
