Men’s soccer dominate Rolesville

The Leesville Road men’s soccer team bounced back Tuesday night from last week’s 1-0 loss to Cardinal Gibbons with a 7-0 victory over Rolesville. The victory moved the Pride to 2-4-1 on the season and gave them some much needed momentum.

The Pride has struggled to find the back of the net this season, but that was not the case Tuesday. Within the opening minutes of the game, Luca Menozzi, senior captain, gave Leesville the early lead when he scored off a free kick taken by Grant Nelson.

Menozzi didn’t stop there — he was able to find Tyler Proctor, senior, streaking into the box with 25:51 left in the first. Proctor was able to connect on the cross giving leesville the 2-0 lead.

Rolesville was able to respond in the 17 minute off of a Pride error; however, Rolesville’s Kelby Gay was called offsides keeping the score at 2-0.

With 4:53 left in the first, Leesville was awarded a PK and Nelson stepped up looking to make the game 3-0. However, Rolesville’s Jordan Payne, goalkeeper, had other ideas and was able to come up with a big save. The momentum had shifted into the hands of Rolesville.

Rolesville had several chances in the remaining minutes, including a header that hit off the post, but they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. The score remained 2-0 in favor of the Pride as both teams entered the half.

During halftime, the Pride were able to recuperate and regain the momentum. Proctor was able to score off Gabe Oliveira’s corner kick within the first minute of the second half. Just three minutes later, Menozzi was able to break free from Rolesville defense. His initial shot was saved but he connected on the rebound. The Pride now lead 4-0.

At the 23 minute mark, Rolesville scored an own goal off Robert Bailey’s, junior, cross but Bailey was called offsides. Although, 39 seconds later Menozzi was able to score again giving him his third goal of the night. Oris Griggs was able to find the back of the net with 5:32 off Nur Durar’s corner kick.  The seventh and final goal of the game came from Riley Whitsit.
