Leesville continues winning streak

The Leesville Road High School football team defeated Enloe High School 42 – 9 in a Varsity football game on Friday, September 24 at Marshall L. Hamilton Stadium.

The Eagles kicked off to start the game, and the Pride scored right away on an Austin Berrios kickoff return of 70 yards for the first points of the game.  From there Leesville poured it on.  With 7:37 left in the second quarter, D.J. Hunt scored on a two-yard run into the endzone.  Following an Enloe punt, quarterback Josh Stanley ran the ball for a touchdown with three minutes left in the half.

The Eagles looked to gain some momentum before the half and drove the ball all the way down to the 12-yard line of Leesville.  With nine seconds left on the clock, Enloe set up for a field goal but carried out a fake for a pass into the endzone.  However, Braxton Barrios intercepted the ball near the goal line and returned the pick for a touchdown as time expired.  The Pride led 28 – 0 at halftime.

Coach Greene seemed happy with the first half results.  “It took us a while to get going, but we started playing a lot better on the second quarter.”

Enloe began the second half with a strong start and scored a touchdown on their opening drive.  Following a blocked extra point, the Pride scored a touchdown of their own to increase the lead to 35 – 6.

In the fourth quarter, Leesville answered an Enloe field goal with a rushing touchdown by D.J. Hunt with 6:48 left in the game, resulting in a series of fireworks set off behind the stadium.

Leesville improved to 5 – 1 overall and 1 – 0 in the Cap 8.
