School is back in session, and with it the theater department is getting ready to start their fall season. Similar to one of last year’s fall productions, this year’s fall show is actually a musical– Yo, Vikings! to be exact.
Ms. Wrayno, technical director, and Ms. Tarson, theatre director, have set production plans into motion; opening night will be November, 15 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The musical will showcase the theater department, and ticket sales will help fund the purchase of lumber, paint, and other more expensive items used in creating a play.
The musical follows Emma, a fictitious fifth grader who researches a viking for a school project. “She reads about vikings, and her imagination kind of takes over…and crazy adventures happen” said Ms. Wrayno, technical director.
Even though the musical’s audience is typically children “it’s enjoyable for everyone. There’s still humor that adults will enjoy,” said Magdalene Crist, assistant director. “It’s still a great form of art that is still hard to pull off,” said Crist, in light of working on one of Leesville’s first children’s theater productions.
The cast and crew were fully assembled on September 7, and the construction of the spectacle — what you as an audience member will see and hear on stage– has started.
Some intriguing aspects of the spectacle will include “interesting special effects” in the regards to lights and props. “We’re going to have fun with those, we really are… we’re not nervous about those!” said Ms.Wrayno.
Crist described the music as extremely fun and just as imaginative as the main character.
If you can’t wait until November to see a production, on September 27 the International Thespian Society will put on their annual dinner theater. It starts at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.
