Spanish Club held their interest meeting for the 2018-2019 school year on Friday, October 26. After much delay due to the hurricanes, around 60 new and old members gathered to kick off the school year.
Each officer, all new and in differing grade levels, introduced themselves and explained their duties for the school year.
Melanie Hupp, vice president, explains via direct message some of the excitement for this upcoming year. “I’m just excited to get things rolling,” she said. “We’ve been so crammed with all the hurricanes, I’m excited to get into a rhythm and be able to celebrate the spanish culture.”
Upcoming events for the club include the annual Christmas drive, where students raise money in order to buy Christmas presents for assigned families. Officers also mentioned a Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, event including cookie decorating to look like skulls.
Waverly Kennedy, historian, claims she’s most excited about the Christmas drive. “I’m really looking forward to… wrapping Christmas presents for families in need drive. That one’s like a really cool project to do. I feel like the Day of the Dead cookies is a really fun idea too,” said Kennedy at the end of the meeting.
If you’re interested in joining, you don’t have to be enrolled in any Spanish class! Meetings are in the breezeway during A lunch, with $5 dues. Any members of SNHS can also receive hours for attending meetings.
