Exam Schedule Change

Leesville released its exam schedule for January 2020 and June 2020. The new schedule is back to being the same as it was in 2018.

The schedule places two exams in a day, instead of only one. Each exam lasts just over 2 hours, while on the old schedule they lasted for four. The January exams are as follows:

Tuesday, January 21: 1st & 2nd Period Exams (7:25 am – 12:37 pm)

Wednesday, January 22: 3rd & 4th Period Exams (7:25 am – 12:37 pm)

Thursday, January 23: English II/Math 1B/Math 1/Math 3 EOC (7:25 am – 11:45 am)

Friday, January 24: Biology EOC/Math 1B/Math 1/Math 3 EOC (7:25 am – 11:45 am)

Monday, January 27: Exam make-up day for all students by appointment

Many students are happy to see the change. “The old schedule wasn’t great,” said Alexa Forrester, senior. “Four hours is way too long for a teacher-made exam… I basically ended up sitting in a room in silence for 2 and a half hours.”

James Bunton, junior, agrees with Forrester. “I’m really glad there are two exams in one day,” said Bunton. He says that only taking one exam a day stretched out the experience and made exams seem to “drag on forever”.

The schedule previously had exams taking four hours because of End-of-Course Tests (EOC’s). Most EOC’s take four hours to administer. Last year, Biology, Math I, Math III, and English II were required EOCs. This year, only Biology, Math I, and Math III are EOCs. Because fewer courses have EOC exams, placing those courses on separate testing days is possible.

With EOCs placed on separate days, Leesville students can go back to taking two exams a day and only coming into school for four hours if they have an exam that needs that time.
