Swim team tryouts took place the week of November 8. They started before school at 5:30 a.m. and concluded at 6:30 a.m.
The swimmers started the tryout by swimming 500 yards. After the warm-up, they split into two groups. One group swam laps while the other group did dry land exercises such as crunches and push-ups.
55 students tried out for the team and 45 to 50 will be accepted.
Erin Morehead, junior and returning swim team member, tried out again this year. “Tryouts aren’t too bad,” said Morehead. “Whether or not you make the team is judged by your dedication and the work you’re willing to put in, rather than your skill at the strokes.”
The names of this year’s swim team members will be posted Friday 12 after school.
“We [the girls] were Cap-8 champs last year, and we’ve beat Enloe for the past two years. Our coach, Coach Izquierda, swam for Enloe when she was in high school, so beating them is a big deal. Hopefully we’ll do it again this year.”
Katy has been on staff since her sophomore year, starting as a staff writer. With hard work and diligence, she earned a junior editor position and ultimately became Editor-in-Chief her senior year. She will pursue a degree in journalism in college.
