Leesville’s football team dropped out in the second round playoff game to their in-state rival Wake Forest, 21-45. This was the second loss the Pride suffered to the Cougars this season.
On Thursday night, the red hot Leesville Pride went to Wake Forest for a pivotal playoff match up. The Pride, led by DJ Scott, had won five of their last six games. Two of these games were against playoff teams in Sanderson, Broughton, and DH Conley.
Wake Forest, on the other hand, had won six of their last seven with one of those wins being against the Pride. Their only two losses were to Cardinal Gibbons and Millbrook.
Through the first quarter, thanks to a couple touchdown passes from John Mark Shaw, the Pride led the Cougars 14-7. Leesville gave up three touchdowns and trailed the Cougars by 14 heading into the half.
From the second half kick to the final whistle, Wake Forest proved to be too much for Leesville. The Pride put up just 7 more points throughout the remainder of the game while Wake Forest tacked on two touchdowns and a field goal to secure a 45-21 win.
The final whistle on Thursday night brought Leesville’s season to an end. The Pride finished the season with a 9-3 record.
For Leesville, they will return plenty of talent for next season and continue to work and get back to the championship game.
