What’s Wrong with UNC Basketball?

UNC Men’s basketball is one of the most successful athletic programs of all time, and there are plenty of great players and hardware to show for it.

Over the years, the Heels have racked up 6 NCAA National Championships, 21 Final Fours, and 18 ACC Tournament championships.

After last season’s incredible run to the Final Four, UNC returned 4 of their 5 starters for the 2022-2023 season. The Tar Heels began the season as the country’s AP Poll number 1 team. The dream of getting back to the national championship was well underway.

The season started with a “bend but don’t break” style of play. A few close games with inferior teams had the fans very skeptical about the team’s top ranking. UNC lost their next 5 games and fell to 4-5 on the season.

Currently, the Heels are unranked, hold a 10-5 record overall, and have yet to win a road game. However, UNC has not lost a home game so far this season.

As the season progresses and ACC play gets underway, the Tar Heels will play more games in Chapel Hill, hopefully resulting in more wins for the team.

UNC has the players and coaching to make it back to the title game. Many fans are questioning the shot selection from Caleb Love and RJ Davis. Although both players have started to hit their stride, taking smart shots and playing as a team wins championships.

To get back to the national championship, UNC will need to figure out how to solve its road struggles. Over the course of the season, UNC will face Duke, Miami, Virginia, and NC State all away.

If UNC can’t find a way to win a few of these games, they might find themselves playing on the first day of the ACC Tournament.
