Leesville Falls to Gibbons at Home

Leesville went into their matchup with Gibbons holding a record of 9-2. The Pride was coming off a big win against Holly Springs going into the game against Gibbons. A subpar performance against rival Cardinal Gibbons, put a halt on the Pride’s hot streak.

Early in the first quarter, Leesville quickly grabbed a 5-0 lead and held Gibbons to 0-4 shooting during their two possessions. After a few rough turnovers from Leesville and great three point shoots from Gibbons, the Pride found themselves down 19 at the half.

Maintaining a lead has been a struggle for Leesville this season. Typically they are able to overcome a short lived comeback from their opponent, but the Crusaders continued to get easy points throughout the course of the game.

Every shot seemed to drop for Gibbons which killed any scoring run Leesville put together.

Although the Pride trailed by 19 at half, they continued to fight all the way down to the final whistle. Throughout the course of the second half, Leesville had a few stoppages due to players bleeding. This killed any momentum they put together in the second half.

Ultimately, Leesville lost to Gibbons by a final score of 81-70. Leesville dropped to 9-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

Leesville is heading into the home stretch of the season and needs to come up with a few key wins. A win against Sanderson will likely put them atop the conference with a chance at a conference championship in February.
