There are many book series that were important to Gen Z as kids — Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Dairies of a Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries, Warrior Cats, and more. All of the book series teach good morals and have intriguing stories, and while many people have different opinions about which is the best, this is the order I believe to be the most popular.
#1 Harry Potter
Harry Potter is obviously the most popular. It has a 7 movie film series (and A TV show in the works.) It has sold over 600 million copies worldwide, making it one of the most popular book series ever.
It has an engaging story that is able to keep kids easily engaged, which is not easy to do.
Characters like Harry Potter, Ron Weasely, and Hermione Granger are good role models to kids, showing them that no matter how young or “weak” you are to others, you can always stand up for yourself and make friends that will back you up.
#2 Percy Jackson
Percy Jackson is like the younger brother in the Harry Potter books. It had a 2 movie film series, that were not the greatest, and there is a highly anticipated TV set to come out in December of 2023.
The book series has sold more than 180 million copies worldwide. With several different series in the Percy Jackson universe, it has become one of the most popular book series in the world.
“I have re-read the Percy Jackson books since I was like 6 years old, the characters and the stories never get old, new books keep coming out and it is truly my favorite series,” said Peyton Holt, senior.
The series has a captivating story, with loveable characters that everyone can connect with. Percy Jackson has something for everyone, greek gods and mythology, a love story, a good fight scene, and a found family trope.
#3 Diary of a Wimpy Kid
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid was extremely popular among 5th to 6th-grade boys, as it followed a boy named Greg Heffley through middle school and showed how he survived.
“Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the only book series that I read as a kid, It was the most interesting and I just found it entertaining,” said Aiden Ferguson, senior.
The book took a unique route making it so the book was like a journal that Greg was writing in.
The book series was an easy read, and entertained children. It was able to hold the attention of kids by using a combination of drawing and words. The drawings were stick figures that Greg, theoretically, drew in his journal to describe his life.
The book series is easily relatable to children if they are going through the same events and emotions that Greg is going through himself. They can look to the book for inspiration and advice.
The series sold more than 275 million copies, which makes it the 4th popular series in the world.
#4 Dork Diaries
The Dork Diaries series is basically a female version of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It follows Nikki Maxwell as she writes and draws about events that happened during her time in middle school.
Nikki goes through, finding new friends, moving to a new school, losing friends, and bullying. It has sold more than 45 million copies worldwide.
The book was relatable to almost all young girls. It helped many girls deal with growing up in the world.
The drawing and writing style in the book, kept young girls easily entertained and engaged in the story.
#5 Warrior cats
Warrior Cats is a unique book series. It focuses on 4 clans of wild clans of cats, that wage war against each other.
The series has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. The books captured many kids’ hearts, leading to some songs, movies, and videos about the series.
Although it sounds weird, it was able to hold the attention of kids with its intriguing story and interesting dialogue.
