New Year’s Celebrations

In the US, New Year is celebrated on January 1st every year. For most families, New Year is a time to celebrate the end of the old year and the start of a new year.

Many families have different traditions for celebrating the New Year.

Nyah von Haam, junior, and her family partake in one of the most common traditions, “One of my favorite New Year’s traditions is watching the Ball Drop at Midnight.”

The most popular Ball Drop in the US is the one in Times Square, NYC. The countdown and ball drop are nationally televised along with the different celebrities and singers performing for the event.

Besides the typical New Year’s traditions and celebrations, making a New Year’s resolution is a huge part of New Year’s.

Many Americans take the start of a new year as an opportunity to improve their lives.

Popular resolutions include eating healthier, getting a gym membership, keeping the house clean, and other similar goals.

Tyler James, freshman, said, “My goal is to have a healthier lifestyle…eating better and sleeping more; hopefully I can keep it up for a while!”

While resolutions are incredibly common during the New Year’s time of year, a lot of the time, people don’t stick to their resolutions year-round.

People will go to the gym, buy only organic foods, and buy new alarm clocks only to abandon their new goals as the year goes on.

However, some people make resolutions about more than just physical lifestyle changes. Von Haam said, “My resolution this year is to just enjoy every minute of my life!”

Oftentimes, having a positive attitude can be difficult to implement but easy to maintain.

Hopefully, the coming New Year will bring in positive changes and fun celebrations!
