Gene Kim, Alec Swiniarski, Kristin Murphy, Josh Vigil and Nate Seaman, seniors, and Gabe Romero, junior, collaborated complete the senior wall for the 2012 graduating class.
Kim created the original idea for the wall.
Amy McGarry, English teacher, Jill Beaver, science teacher and Jennifer Brammer, career and technical education teacher, selected the design from a competition held within the art departement.
“We thought Gene’s was the best. It was modern, interesting and different,” said McGarry, on why she chose his design.
The entire project took over 20 hours. The painters began the project on Wednesday, Aug. 17, and finished it on Friday, Aug. 19.
“I knew I wanted to paint the wall since I saw the design my freshman year,” said Kim, “so I was prepared. I had the design in my sketch book by December of my junior year.
“It is supposed to be an individual competition, but in Art 4 Alec, Kristin, Josh and I decided to collaborate,” added Kim.
Swiniarski is best at graffiti, so he did most of the words. Kim and Murphy completed the majority of the lion.
So far, students are pleased with the wall.
“It is very different than all the other years which I like. The color scheme and lion caught my attention because of how creatively it was drawn,” said Jenan Fatfat, senior.
The tradition of painting the wall recently started about four years ago.
