On Thursday, September 23, the Leesville varsity men’s soccer team gained another win against the Heritage Huskies. After being rained out Wednesday, the Pride came out hard, winning 5-0, bringing them to a record of 8-2-1. Monjue Campbell, Justin Arostegui, Branco Theis, and Daniel Cipriano all supplied assists which were capitalized on by Carey Davis, Arostegui, Theis, and Campbell.
Leesville started the scoring with goals within the first minute of each half. Coach Dinkenor said, “I was pleased with the energy the team played with. This was really a team win, everyone played, everyone contributed.”
Simon Burke said, “We work really hard, and we work well together.”
Fernando Castellanos agreed, saying, “We played like a team.” The pride team has really come together, showing support for each other on and off the field.
Even the injured players Ryan Carney and Faelan Hoese are staying positive and being a good source of encouragement for their teammates.
“Go on my son,” yelled Dinkenor as the Pride had one of their numerous fast breaks down the the field.
Kayvon Ezami said, “We need to work on finishing our chances.” The Leesville team had 23 shots throughout the game.
Heritage was completely shut down offensively. The Pride’s defense was not challenged much, but when it was they handled it smoothly.
“As Dink always tells us, one game at a time,” said Simon Burke. The Pride men’s soccer team is working hard to beat every team, one game at a time. With their strong camaraderie, reliable defense, and productive offense, this team is one to be reckoned with.
The varsity team’s next games are Monday, October 3 at Broughton and Monday, October 5 at home against Wakefield.
