The Mycenaean has seven new writers ready to get to work, they applied to join at the end of the 23’-24’ school year. The seven new writers are Parker Aiken, Bennett Ange, Lucas Casterline, Alexis Engelson, Caitlyn Holland, Bailey Kunkel, and Jack Watson. Now, let’s meet them!
Parker Aiken, a student pilot and recent Family Feud winner, is working towards getting his pilot’s license by the end of the school year.
Bennett Ange is a soccer player whose mother helped start the ‘Leesville Loonies’ nickname and is hoping to make varsity soccer this year.
Lucas Casterline, who claims he can’t dance, is the son of a dance teacher and wants a girlfriend (DM him if interested).
Alexis Engelson is a tennis player who doesn’t want to crash any more golf carts.
Caitlyn Holland is an owner of 10 pets all ranging from reptiles to dogs, who wants to figure out what her major in college will be.
Bailey Kunkel is the youngest of 5 children and wants to join as many clubs as possible this year.
Jack Watson is a runner who wants to educate the freshman on the Murphy Building pool.
They are hard at work writing their first articles. Newspaper students have the freedom to write on any subject that is related to the Leesville community, which excites Aiken.
Engelson is writing her article on the “Changes in graduation requirements”, while Aiken is doing his first article on “How bad the AC is”. The other new writers are writing articles on subjects ranging from helping the community to our new lion mural in the cafeteria.
While it is a very different class, writers like Engelson “like the flexibility” and think it’ll be very enjoyable. Newspaper provides a great balance of solo and collaborative work, especially when coming up with article ideas. This has helped the new writers adjust to writing a new article every week.
