The Leesville Key Club interest meeting was on September 18, 2024, in the library at 2:30 after school.
Key Club offers many opportunities to gain experience and to socialize with others in the community. They provide ideas such as locations, dates, and program names to help students find volunteer hours.
This interest meeting was for students to meet new people, discuss how Key Club works, and why it’s important. Officers said Key Club helps their community effectively and in a fun environment. Students can work together to volunteer for these events.
Reagan Rawls, senior and President, said, “Every meeting has opportunities for the students, like staying after to make cards for teachers.”
To stay in Key Club $19 dues are required by October 18, 2024.
One program, the Food Bank, students packed food into bags to give to those in need for two to three hours. Another program listed was a local church called Saint Francis of Assisi. Similar to the Food Bank, they make bags that include food, essential needs, and toiletries.
Schools also have game events that require volunteers. “You can do concessions at middle school,” said Ben Provo, freshman.
One more event was a program called Wake Up and Read. This social event was where students came to a certain location and sorted books for different grade levels. An example would be sorting chapter books or picture books. After all the books were sorted, they were put into large boxes to be transported to families and schools.
New meetings will take place at least once a month. Meeting dates will be posted on the Leesville Key Club Instagram page.
