Mrs. Jacobs, Principal of LRHS, has created a Principal Advisory Team: a diverse governing body of students to collaborate with her and other administrators during the school year.
In her second year, Mrs. Jacobs steams ahead with improvements to Leesville’s environment. After implementing new policies and refreshing the camps, her new goal is to bring student voices into the conversation for the high school community.
Between September 12 and 26, every student had the opportunity to fill out a Google form to apply to be on this team. The Google form was filled with specific questions, aimed at understanding students’ vision for Leesville.
Being a part of this team allows for student leadership and a connection straight to administration.
Jacobs said, “It’s a great way for me to get to know kids and talk to them one-on-one about things that they think we can do to improve our school … I am interested in a president, vice president, and a secretary so that we have kids leading the meetings as well as me being a part of the meeting.”
Having students’ points of view on issues around school provides administration with a fresh perspective.
Krish Vakani, junior, and Principal Advisory Team applicant, said, “I think we need to get some more time during lunch. People are getting into car accidents because they are rushing out of the parking lot.”
The team will meet at least once a month during A and B lunch periods to help Mrs. Jacobs and other administrative members plan the next steps for Leesville.
