Leesville Econ Class Shark Tank Project teaches like skills

To graduate in North Carolina, seniors must take Economics and Personal Finance.

Every student currently enrolled in the class is participating in a “Shark Tank Project” for their unit 2 major.

This product is based around the famous show Shark Tank, where entrepreneurs present their companies to investors, in hopes of promoting their product.

This project challenges students to generate a new product, non-profit organization, or service to produce a business plan and presentation.

Ansley Booth, a current senior in economics, said, “I liked this project because it allowed me to be creative with my own ideas and a product, rather than take a test. But also, it teaches you basic economic skills of owning a business.”

Students must brainstorm ideas like key partnerships, activities, and relations to hypothesize a cost structure and revenue streams. Students brainstormed a variety of ideas, consisting of cellular apps, writing utensils, car accessories, appliances, clothing, etc.

“I think that project has the capacity to be very engaging, as long as students pace themselves correctly,” said Lilly McElrath, economics senior student.

Seniors used their imagination and thought outside the box to create a product, poster, slideshow, and commercial video to review their knowledge of a business structure.
