We’re about two months into the school year, and students are starting to get jobs. The real concern is whether or not it’s healthy to maintain both school and work.
Noah Rosato, junior, works at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. “It’s not overwhelming to balance school and work for me because I don’t work that much. I can easily do my school work on time and my boss knows one of my teachers and they can communicate,” said Rosato.
Although some students have jobs that allow them to maintain a simple schedule, some students sacrifice their free time to maintain their academic performance and expectations.
“Something I do to help me stay on top of school work is, if I have work that day, during school I’ll do my homework during lunch and in the library to get all of it done. Then go to work, so I don’t stress,” said Terian Ash, a senior who works at Jersey Mikes.
Tyler Gomez, a senior who works at a golf course, said, “Having a job positively impacts my academic performance. It helps reinforce ideas like getting the job done, consistently always doing your best, putting your best effort first, and just knowing you did one hundred percent on everything you do.”
If you are thinking about getting a job make sure you don’t lose focus on school. According to most students, having a job could be an extremely beneficial experience by teaching you more than just how to do your job, but also teaches you life lessons.
