Beow’s Books and Brews in Raleigh Review

A relatively new coffee, wine, beer, and book store, Beow’s Books and Brews, located at 8111 Creedmoor Rd Suite 153 in Raleigh, has yet to be flooded by the general public. It is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. six days a week and closed on Sundays.

Beow’s, a relatively undiscovered third space, sells books and serves a variety of coffee, wine, beer, and pastries. As well as being a comforting space to hang out, Beow also publishes books of around 100 pages and of all genres.

As described on its website, Beow’s was founded on community and holding meaningful conversations to create great thinkers. It is also founded on the ideas of philosophy, theology, and God.

Beow’s has moody colors, soft lighting, and a relaxing atmosphere. Paired with velvet furniture, a dark ceiling, tall bookshelves, plenty of comfortable seating, and blueish-green wallpaper featuring trees.

As for the food and drink, breakfast is from 7am to 11am, and lunch and evening snacks are available from 11am to 8pm. While their menu isn’t luxuriously complicated, it does have consistent staples like rigged, salads, charcuterie, toast, and yogurt.

As for the coffee, it was strong, but still, good coffee nonetheless. I enjoy my coffee a bit on the stronger side with a deeper taste, and the friendly Barista at Beow’s did just that. I also got caramel in my coffee. While in some coffee shops, it’s possible to taste the artificial flavoring, at Beow’s it was smooth and while sugary, the caramel wasn’t overpowering.

I got a friend with more sensitive taste buds to taste my coffee, too. Kenzi Cumming, senior, didn’t like the coffee because she thought it was too strong. While I thought it wasn’t, I’m also less sensitive to the strengths because I have been drinking coffee for so long. To me, it was good, and I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed the coffee, while it wasn’t as good as NoRa, it still had the potential to be better. I would argue it was better than Starbucks. It’s best to invest in local coffee shops instead of Starbucks because 1) They are better, and 2) It’s supporting locals besides a huge corporation that will do fine without your money.

As Beow’s also sells wine and beer, I am not of age to report their quality.

Lastly, the books available to buy: Used paperback books go for 3 dollars, hardcover for 5 dollars, kid books sold for 2 dollars, and new and rare older books are 15 dollars or more. The decent price for books also furthers the opportunity for children to have better access to books and further their education.

Beow’s doesn’t only have cheap books, but also hosts educational and extracurricular events. Such as the book club that meets twice a month on Mondays at 6:30 pm, comedy show nights on the first Saturday of the month at 7 pm, live jazz performances, book signings, and the Triangle Form Lectures from educators speaking on a variety of topics.
