“I was a little shocked with gratitude. It was a real full-circle moment. It felt very rewarding because our season was coming to an end, and it was very stressful and challenging at times. It was a great reminder that hard work does indeed pay off and it takes a village to run a program.” said Lyon.
Lyon has been playing volleyball for fourteen years. She actually graduated from LRHS in 2016 after playing for three years on the volleyball team here.
She credits Erin Hensler and Christie Dobbins –previous LRHS volleyball coaches– for helping her grow professionally and as a person.
“Taking over the volleyball program was something I always have dreamed of but never thought I would be really doing it.” said Lyon
Over the years, Lyon has learned a lot about how she can make her team the best it can be, “I view volleyball as a physical, mental, and emotional sport and I focus on the importance of all three throughout the entire season. This expresses how much I really care for my athletes on and off the court. Showing athletes you care for them builds respect and trust which then sets a high expectation for every individual player, team, and entire program.”
The coaches and volleyball program celebrated Lyon by bringing baskets, writing letters, and expressing their gratitude.
Chloe Cragg, junior and varsity setter, said, “I love how motivational and open she is. I think she was really good at making our team improve through the whole season and work together. She deserves this award more than anyone and I’m so proud to be one of her players.”
