At the few stores I have gone into since Halloween, I was bombarded immediately with glittery red and green decor, and I’m left asking “why are people skipping out on Thanksgiving?”
Okay, I know a lot of people really love Christmas, and some people put up their trees the day after Halloween. Hot take, they’re crazy.
Thanksgiving is arguably one of my favorite holidays and competes with Christmas for the top spot. I’ll state my case for each.
Thanksgiving for me is not only about seeing a lot of family that doesn’t get together that often, or watching and/or playing football, but above that, I get to eat to my heart’s content and not feel guilty about it.
That alone should be a given to why Thanksgiving is such a great holiday.
Now let’s look at Christmas.
Family getting together, check. Good food on both Christmas Eve and Christmas, check. Family drama, double check.
Looking at it now, aside from gifts and people putting up trees, the traditions of the holiday — which can depend on specific family traditions — are very similar, and Christmas isn’t about the gifts right?
Again, these two holidays are my top two in the holiday category. In no other time of year can you eat, sleep, eat some more, sleep some more, and get a bunch of basically free stuff within just November and December.
With all that in mind, people completely skip on Thanksgiving in terms of hype, decorating, and anticipation. Christmas is over a month away, people. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, just a couple weeks away.
Thanksgiving isn’t celebrated all around the world, but those who do celebrate it don’t always go all out for it like they would for other big holidays like Halloween or Christmas.
Thanksgiving is a great holiday and deserves a lot more in society than what it gets.
