What high school students need to know about the PreACT

Sophomores took the PreACT on Thursday, November 7, 2024. Students took the test in classrooms around the main building. The test started around 7:25 am and lasted until around 10:30 am.

All sophomores had to take this test and some students think differently about this. “I feel like if the PreACT was not required we shouldn’t have to take the PreACT. I get that it prepares us, but I don’t know if we actually need it, “ said Jake Daly, sophomore.

There are 3 main sections in the PreACT, reading, math, and science. This test is different from the SAT and the PSAT due to the added science portion. Preparation for the PreACT is a choice but it can help to refamiliarize older topics on math or science.

Cole Turner, sophomore, said, “I didn’t remember anything from math because I took it a while ago, so I tried to look at my notes from math last year.”

During the test, students are not allowed to have anything at their testing station except for a Chromebook, Chromebook charger, and a non-mechanical pencil. The proctor will read the instructions before and after each section of the test. Students will also be provided a break in between sections.

After the test students can grab their belongings and head to their 3rd-period class or lunch depending on their schedule.
