Leesville’s Latin Club’s Annual Coat Drive

The LRHS Latin Club is one of Leesville’s oldest clubs. For the past seven years, it has collected coats and toys for children.

The Latin club is asking for new or gently used coats to be dropped off in Dr. Mash’s room, room number 211. Each coat donated is one service hour, and additionally, they are collecting new toys. The drive ends on December 18.

Ellary Hileman, senior, Latin club President said, “Last year we didn’t get many coats, but we’re hoping to get a bigger turnout because the Latin club has grown significantly this year.”

The Latin Coat Drive works with WRAL Coats for the Children to make an impact on the North Carolina community. WRAL has been collecting warm clothes and toys for North Carolinian Salvation Army families since 1989. Since the drive began they have collected 176,650 coats and two million dollars. With 400,000 children in NC living in poverty, this coat drive has kept many children warm during the cold weather, but they can only do it with help from the community.

In February, the Latin club will be asking students to write letters to their teachers to show appreciation for the hard work they do. The next Latin club meeting will be on December 19.
