As the holiday season approaches, everyone begins planning for Christmas. A lot of people get into the holiday spirit by starting with decorating their homes and putting up their trees. Others focus on prepping their holiday menus and trying new festive recipes to share with family and friends.
“My family gets into the Christmas season very early and puts our tree up in November, before Thanksgiving. My house always feels so cozy in the Winter because of all of the decorations,” said Lily Myers, junior.
The Christmas season can also be a time to travel. Many will travel to visit loved ones to spend the holiday with them. Christmas can also be a time when families enjoy booking vacations in order to experience festive traditions in new places. Spending Christmas in new destinations provide unique experiences to travelers and allows them to celebrate the holiday in new ways and create memories that gifts don’t give.
“On the 26th, my family plans on driving to Pennsylvania, so I can see my family that lives there. I’m going to stay at my mom’s parents house then my cousin’s for a few days. I plan on going shopping, having dinner with family friends, spending time with family, and possibly even doing a day trip to NYC,” said Isabelle Namey, senior.
Individuals embrace the season by focusing and spending a lot of time together with friends and families. It’s common for gift exchanges between family members on Christmas day, but some also participate with their friends. Gift exchanges oftentimes are done via White Elephant or Secret Santa, where gifts are exchanged anonymously until the gift-giver’s identity is revealed.
As Christmas Day draws closer, people get more and more excited, especially students who aren’t out of school yet. No matter what your plans are this holiday season, it should bring joy and be filled with long-lasting memories for years to come.
