Why should you join the LRHS Special Needs Awareness club?

The Special Needs Awareness Club, otherwise known as SNAC club, is a club that happens a couple times per month. It takes place in room 2202 during lunch and students spend time with Leesville’s special education class.

If a student is interested in joining the club and didn’t attend the interest meeting at the beginning of the year, students are welcomed to attend the next upcoming meeting. The most recent meeting took place on February 5th. The next meeting coming up will take place in early March. The exact date will be posted on the SNAC club’s Instagram page, @lrhssnac.

In the SNAC club, members of the club and students in the special education class spend their lunch period together and do a variety of different activities.

Finley Lewis, sophomore, said, “We do a lot of different things. We play games with them and do crafts. It’s a really good way to meet new people and get out of your usual group of friends. It’s really a lot of fun.”

The SNAC club prioritizes and represents inclusivity and diversity in Leesville.

“I’ve learned a lot from it. It helps people learn about inclusivity and just spreading love to others. It helps you connect with new people you haven’t met before and learn about different people,” said Molly Zuberg, senior.

Members of the club join for many reasons such as how it has a positive influence on the students in the class and the members of the club. It gives students a deeper understanding and perspective on special needs.

Kaylin Blades, junior, said, “Whenever we go, [the special education class] is always so excited to see us. It’s just a very positive environment. Everyone is always so nice. I really recommend everyone who is interested to join.”

Students should feel free to and are encouraged to come during their lunch period and hang out.
