Every year, there are around 16 million students enrolled in colleges around the United States. Around 97% of these students receive scholarships to help support their further education.
Students all over Leesville Road High School are recipients of scholarships for academic, athletic, or artistic achievements.
Ava Pelter, senior, said, “I’ve been offered a merit scholarship at Meredith College for 25 grand and then a scholarship for Clemson.”
Ellary Hileman, senior, has been accepted into Shenandoah University and will be in their theater program.
Hileman said, “For students who have been accepted into their theater and music conservatory they add on an additional scholarship to your tuition.”
There are many different ways for students to receive scholarships. Pelter said the colleges reached out to her but some students had to reach out to the colleges.
Leesville offers many resources that help students get scholarships.
Ella Speerschnider, senior, said, “Look at your school’s website. The Leesville [senior page]. They post a bunch [of scholarships] on there.”
It is important to know your opportunities for scholarships and know how to take advantage of them when they come.
“Just apply to a lot of [scholarships]. If you see any that you seem fitting just apply to them,” said Hileman.
Different colleges offer different scholarships so you can look at their website to find any that are specific to your school. Speerschnider has been accepted into Colorado Mason University and found many on their website that she applied for.
With around 1.7 million scholarships given to students across the United States yearly it may be daunting to look for scholarships that are right for you, but it is definitely worth the financial help for your secondary education.
