Leesville students attend Model United Nations Conference

LRHS Students meet at the UNC Chapel Hill Student Union each day of conference. MUNCH conference leadership encourages all delegates to dress in business attire.

From February 28 – March 2, 2025 the LRHS Model United Nations club attended the annual MUNCH (Model United Nations at Chapel Hill) conference.

Over the course of the weekend, the group attended several committee sessions to debate topics and further interests of their respective countries/ roles assigned in conference. Along with this, delegates were invited to attend workshops to improve their parliamentary procedure and public speaking skills as well as hear from unique guest speakers.

“This was my first year attending MUNCH, and I had a lot of fun. It was really fun to get to walk around the UNC campus for the weekend and debate on all different topics,” said Tillie Noyes, senior and Model UN club secretary.

Run by the University of North Carolina International Relations Association (CIRA), UNC students of all grades work together to organize the High School conference MUNCH. Throughout the weekend, CIRA club members and officers work to staff committees and ensure the conference runs smoothly.

LRHS students had the opportunity to craft resolutions and collaborate with like-minded peers to navigate international relations issues, providing delegates with an opportunity to meet like-minded students from all across North Carolina.

For some, MUNCH served as an introduction to the world of debate and international relations, while for others it served as an opportunity for delegates to expand their knowledge and refine their public speaking skills.
