Students often forget to stay hydrated during school. It can be hard to remember to drink water throughout the day because of so many distractions. However, drinking water is vital in maintaining students’ overall health, helping maintain focus, improving brain function, staying hydrated, and supporting the immune system.
According to drinkflowater.com, “Dehydration can lead to a variety of health problems. It can cause headaches, fatigue, and muscle cramps, all of which can limit active students and, ultimately, affect their performance in school and sports.”
In recent years, some brands have released water-tracking bottles that encourage people to stay hydrated daily. They typically include features that remind you to drink water regularly, such as time markers, volume indicators, or even built-in reminders.
Lila Padden, junior, said, ¨I got the Gatorade Gx Smart Bottle for Christmas, and I bring it to school almost every day. I think overall it has helped me drink more water because the app gives me a lot of reminders throughout the day, which is helping me build healthier habits. ¨
Some “smart” bottles allow you to track your water intake through apps on your phone. This makes it more fun and appeals to a larger group of people.
“I use the Gatorade app to track how much water I drink every day. I have my goal set to drink 102 ounces a day, it’s helped me to stay hydrated which I’ve noticed a lot in practices,” said Logan Kiser, junior, via text.
You can set personalized hydration goals based on your weight, gender, where you live, and your activity level. Some apps even allow you to share your goals with friends or family creating contests, further encouraging you to drink more water.
Students should invest in smart bottles and take hydration more seriously, in doing so it could help improve their academic and athletic performances.
