What is Singles Awareness Day

Singles Awareness Day is celebrated on February 15th, the day after Valentine’s Day. It’s a day for those not in happy relationships to celebrate the joys of being single.

Dating app companies like Tinder and Hinge created the idea for the day, and social media influencers made it popular.

“We wanted to create a day to celebrate the singles in the world… we didn’t want them to be left out,” said Faye Iosotaluno, CEO of Tinder.

“I think it’s a wonderful holiday, even if it’s a bit unorthodox… people were posting about it, and it became the new thing, so I supported it too,” said Haley Kalil, social media influencer.

Singlets participate in a wide range of activities to celebrate, with the most popular seeming to be drinking at local bars. Statistics show that the number of people hospitalized due to overconsumption of alcohol increases by 43.8% on Single Awareness Day, though nurses have no explanation for the phenomenon.

One highlight of the day is the subscription deals. Dating apps like Tinder and Hinge–these ones that created the day in the first place–run a smashing deal: 50% on all subscriptions, purely out of the goodness of their hearts.

“We want it to be easier for everyone to find their forever partner,” said Iosotaluno.

Singles Awareness Day is definitely a holiday worth recognizing, especially for those who are single and definitely not lonely.
