Recent History of Leesville and Heritage women’s soccer

The Leesville Women’s Varsity soccer team is led by head coach Cooper Paiva and assistant coach Avery Gardner. This year the roster consists of 21 players: seven seniors, seven juniors, six sophomores, and one freshman.

The 2025 season captains were selected before the first non-conference game. They are seniors, Ella Speerschneider, Kirsten Rivenbark, and Carter Knox.

Leesville played Heritage in their first non-conference game of the 2025 season, on Monday, February 24.

Heritage High School proves to be a competitive opponent every time we play them.

Lily Myers, junior, jersey #10, prior to the game said, “In the past two seasons Leesville has tied Heritage each game, last year it was 3-3. The games always have high energy and are very intense. Both teams are always at their best, knowing a win against one another is big.”

On Monday, both teams started off strong despite it being their first game. The season opener can tend to be unpredictable, with new players coming on the team and sometimes new formations or positions introduced it is impossible to predict the result.

Both Heritage and Leesville experienced limited practices before the game due to inclement weather the week before.

Although the game ended in a 0-0 tie, it was still a positive result that can set the tone for the rest of the season. Acting as momentum to carry the team through the next few weeks and win the next time they face Heritage.

It’s uncommon for teams to play a non-conference opponent multiple times throughout the season, but this year Leesville and Heritage will play twice.

The upcoming rematch is at Heritage High School on March 17.
