The Raleigh Summer Youth Employment Program allows teens between the ages of 15 and 18 to develop their skills and prepare for future employment opportunities. Teens can work part-time for the City of Raleigh this summer and get paid and experience in all different kinds of fields.
The program offers experience in categories such as accounting and finance, health services, law enforcement, business, marketing, social services, and more. On the website City of Raleigh Part-Time Job Opportunities, teens and parents can find the information for the jobs, salaries, and hours they offer.
These jobs are scattered over Raleigh and available to teens of all backgrounds and demographics. The experience earned from this program is highly beneficial for future career opportunities. UNC School of Medicine said, “Teenage work experience is linked to personal growth. It helps resume building and leads to higher-paying future jobs.”
Teens must apply for this program and there are multiple ways to do so. Application submissions start February 12, 2025 and are due March 31, 2025. There is an Application Resource Guide available on their website with more information.
Once teens have selected a job they’re interested in on the City of Raleigh Part-Time Job Opportunities website, they can apply for the position.
Teens are required to attend a virtual or in-person interview. The Virtual Sign-Up Link is available until March 31 at 11:59 pm. In-person drop-in interviews are also available at Raleigh Pathway Center 900 S Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC, 27601 on February 22 and March 8 at 10 am-12 pm.
While the program is beneficial, there are some requirements to apply. Teens must be ages 15-18 as of May 31, 2025 and live within the Raleigh city limits. They must be available to work June 16-August 8, 2025 and are required to attend the in-person program orientation at the NCSU McKimmon Center. Orientation is on May 17, 2025 and new hires must attend with a parent or guardian. Teens must have a computer and internet access if they choose the virtual option. They cannot miss more than five program days or be enrolled in summer school. And lastly, teens must pass a Criminal Record Check and Drug Screening.
