Leesville’s 2025 men’s golf tryouts took place this past week at the Briar Creek Country Club. Around 25 golfers arrived to show off their technique, skills, and overall talents.
“I decided to try out because it’s a good way to get experience and start off high school,” typed Parker Merritt, freshman.
Tryouts lasted two days – one day on the range and one day on the course. On the range, golfers warmed up, demonstrated their swings, and highlighted their strengths and weaknesses.
Coaches were really able to see their talents on the course. Golfers went through the course and put their skills to the test as if it were a real match.
Golfers enjoyed the tryouts and felt comfortable around each other and on the course. “The course was fun and the people I went out there with were too. It felt easy to like put myself out there,” typed Merritt.
Tryouts were “challenging but in a good way…it was nerve wracking, but it was definitely worth the pressure,” Merritt typed. All sports tryouts are stressful for athletes, and Leesville’s competitive spirit gave rise to extra pressure.
The long and demanding tryouts gave golfers the opportunity to show their capability to be on the team. Even though some didn’t quite make the cut, their experience will give them a leg up at next year’s tryouts.
