Leesville has awesome performances at track meet vs. Sanderson

On March 22, 2025, a number of Leesville freshmen and sophomores raced at the Triangle Challenge 2025 hosted by Sanderson High School.

These students, who are a part of the Leesville Track & Field team, brought home really good results.

“The meet on Saturday went really well. It was a freshman and sophomore meet, so we had a bunch of our younger kids participating. We had a lot of kids who came out and ran their best races. We had a few people, actually, qualify for regionals,” said Coach Hamilton.

Jayden Lee Perry finished 1st in the boys 200 Meter Dash Finals, 2nd in the boys 100 Meter Dash Finals. The 4x100m relay team, consisting of sophomores Dean Henshall, Evan Brown, Jhazyir Thompson, and Jayden Lee Perry, placed 1st place, having one of the best performances in Leesville’s history with a time of 43.03 seconds.

“We were able to qualify for regionals in the 4x100m. I PR’d in all of my events and I finally hit sub-22 and sub-11 in the 200 and the 100, so I’m happy, but I always know I have to get better,” said Jayden Lee Perry, sophomore.

Both the 4x100m team, and Perry, with the 200m, qualified for regionals. Congratulations to the runners.

“My goal for this season is to make regionals for the 100m and place top 5 in the state,” said Perry.

Other results were:

Boys:

  • Dean Henshall (6th in the 100m and the 200m races)
  • Yu Jayden Ewing (8th in the 400m race)
  • Clayton Hughston (13th in the 1600m and 12th in the 3200m races)
  • Luc Lefebvre (3rd in the pole vault and discus events)
  • Jacob Klauback (4th in the pole vault)
  • Evan Hooley (5th in the pole vault)
  • Owen Neligon (5th in the shot put event)
  • Samuel Hutchinson (6th in the shot put event)

“I ran the 400m, which is my main event. I think I could’ve worked on my finish a little better. I finished kind of slow. I wasn’t used to the track they had, so I think that affected my time, but I am still happy with it,” said Jayden Ewing, sophomore.

Girls:

  • Kimora Page (5th in the 100m, 14th in the 400m races and 5th in the long jump event)
  • Betania Metaferia (6th in the 800m race)
  • Sophia Kyle (14th in the 800m and 11th in the 1600m races)
  • Elaina Johnson (2nd in the long jump and 4th in the triple jump events)

“Track is just a great experience. I recommend anyone who is interested to try out. The meets are a lot of fun,” said Ewing.
