Career and college promise through wake tech

As students begin applying for classes, they are met with countless decisions. What to take, when to take it, and how to make their schedule as optimal as possible. Special courses like Career College Promise classes and internships are also something to take into consideration.

Leesville is one of the lucky schools that has opportunities like Career and College Promise. It’s a program in which high school students can apply for college-level courses through Wake-Tech Community College. Students must go through a long application process and meet the requirements in order to take a CCP class. “The only hard thing was trying to sign up for the classes, but once I got through that, it was very easy and straightforward,” typed Hannah Morris, Senior.

“The numbers continue to increase each semester.  Last Fall, around 100  students took a CCP Class. This Spring there are around 150 students taking CCP classes,” typed Mr. Greene, Dean of Students. CCP classes are gaining popularity and it can be difficult to find information about them. Wake-Tech’s website with information on CCP is a good resource, but if you’re interested in looking further, finding a fellow classmate who has taken or applied for a class might be additional help.

Students and staff at Leesville have a generally positive outlook on CCP courses. Many report that the classes are flexible and allow students to complete their work on their own time. In contrast to AP classes at Leesville, all assignments for the week are due on Sunday, and most courses are entirely online, giving students the freedom to work on their schedule.

The biggest advantage of CCP classes is that they allow credits to be transferred to college. Most colleges nowadays don’t transfer AP credits, but since CCP classes are college courses, they will transfer. “The biggest benefit of CCP is that students can attain some college credits before they enter college, which ultimately saves them time and money,” typed Mr Greene.

CCP classes are a great opportunity for students to broaden their education and try something they’re interested in that may not be offered at Leesville. Thanks to Wake-Tech and their ambition to make education accessible, LRHS students are learning things never thought possible as high schoolers.
