Is Leesville High school a safe space for students?

When sending their kids to school, many parents have the underlying fear that something might happen to their children when away.

Whether that may be breaking a bone, weather issues, or school intruders, Wake County School Systems give their best effort when it comes to students safety.

Although the chances are small, bad things may still happen. Claire Stoke, sophomore, said, “I feel safe at school in case there is an emergency, because we practice drills just in case anything actually does happen.”

Leesville does practice weather drills for tornado warnings. They also practice code red drills in case there is an intruder in the school. Lastly, Leesville practices fire drills once a month in the chance that there is a fire in the building.

The prevention of these major deathly situations isn’t the only reason Leesville is a safe school. Jade Marquez, sophomore, said, “I think counselors help make school safer because they are really helpful and they are great listeners.”

Leesvilles counselors try their best to reach out to students regularly, checking in on mental health, grades, and relationships. They might do this through meetings, emails, or talking in the hallways.

The weekly advisory class presents many ways one can get help when struggling with mental health. Teachers may show slideshows or videos to help give resources where students can reach out if they ever need to.

Overall, Leesville is a very safe school and the teachers and counselors try their best to ensure safety in their students.
