Wear red, get fed

Signs like this one were displayed all around the school. FCCLA does their best to inform Leesville about upcoming events.

On Valentine’s Day,  Leesville’s FCCLA club held a “Wear Red Get Fed” event after school. Any student at school wearing red could stop by Mrs. Blackwelder’s room and pick up a cookie.

The purpose of the event was to support FCCLA week, which was from February 7th to February 14th.

Mrs. Blackwelder, FCCLA supervisor, said, “FCCLA week is a national celebration of FCCLA clubs all over the United States. People in Utah are celebrating right now!” The week is similar to a customer appreciation week; it’s meant for the members of the club to be thanked for their time and effort.

Members of FCCLA made Valentine’s Day cards for patients at Duke Hospital and are constantly seeking out new ways to give back to the community.

FCCLA has big plans for the future. Ten members in FCCLA will be competing in the State Leadership Conference in Greensboro on March 26-28.

At the conference, students are put in situational dilemmas and must plan events and solve problems. “I’m really looking forward to [the conference]. I’m in the hospitality and travel section,” said Emma Taylor, sophomore. “FCCLA has taught me how to present in front of a group of people. I am much more comfortable talking in front of others now then I was before joining the club.”

The next meeting will be held on March 13, 2012; new members are always welcome.
