Singing Valentines sing their way to Leesville

Parents sell the valentines during lunch on Thursday February 7. Each valentine sale goes to the chorus department’s funds.

Due to the success of Singing Valentines in the past years, the lovely tradition will once again sing its ways through the halls of Leesville.

To all who are unaware, the Singing Valentine tradition starts with a significant other, best friend or secret admirer buying the valentine. Valentines this year will be sold Thursday, February 7 through Tuesday, February 12 in the main lobby during all three lunch periods.

The valentine money goes to the Chorus Department for the purchase of music.

Each Valentine has three parts: a song chosen by the valentine-giver, a personal note and a red carnation. This year’s choices are five songs ranging from the popular hit “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen to the classic “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley.

On the day they are delivered, beginning and intermediate chorus and Capital Pride students go classroom to classroom in groups of eight delivering the songs, notes and flowers to the unexpecting students.

“Last year I got a ton of them from my friends.” said Hannah Daley, junior. “It was a nice surprise. Getting valentines from your friends means more! They know all about you and talk to you everyday, but they take that extra step to make sure you know they love you.”

Singing Valentines are Leesville’s way of celebrating the love and friendship filled holiday and, they will arrive to classrooms soon.
