On Tuesday, April 23, Leesville Road High School and Middle School dance classes combined to put on a showcase for family and friends.
The showcase gives the opportunity for any student, no matter their experience level, the chance to perform in front of an audience.
“It is just a great, informal way to do your own thing in front of an audience,” said Dani Youmans, senior.
Ms. Hoban, the high school dance teacher, said, “It features all student’s work. Students choreographed everything, picked their theme, chose their music and performed all on their own.”
This event also gave high school students the opportunity to audition a piece for the spring formal concert. Hoban explained that numerous dances were chosen through this showing, including Youmans’.
In addition, middle school students get exposure to higher level dancers.
“The middle schoolers get really excited about it. It gives them the chance to be inspired,” said Hoban.
The difficulty level of all the dancers was impressive. The showcase incorporated all types of dance, including a contemporary dance by Youmans, a jazz piece by Anne Bowers, middle schooler, and a hip hop number by Tess Joyner, senior, and Haley Rea, sophomore.
Hoban said, “Everyone performed at a very high level and was well prepared. It was really great.”
